9 Stories from Georgian Mythology
9 Stories from Georgian Mythology
From May 23 to 30, an exhibition titled “9 Stories from Georgian Mythology” will take place at the Zurab Tsereteli Museum of Contemporary Art (MoMA Tbilisi).
The number 9 carries a special symbolic meaning in Georgian folklore. It is associated with completeness, the end of a cycle, and the transition to a new stage.
In Georgian fairy tales, we often encounter:
Nine Mountains – a symbol of trials and overcoming difficulties
Nine Springs – a symbol of purification and spiritual strength
Nine Brothers – a symbol of unity
The Nine-Eyed Sun – the center of the universe, all-seeing and all-encompassing
Based on this symbolic significance, nine artists are participating in the exhibition. Each of them brings a Georgian mythological character to life through their own contemporary visual language. In this way, a symbolic circle is created—a complete cycle where past and present merge.
Participating artists: David Machavariani, Tina Tskhadadze, Tekla Kighuradze, Nika Machaidze, Nino Eliashvili, Maia Abashidze, Irakli Keidia, Vasil Berela, Giorgi Jincharadze.
The project is curated by the art platform SharedStory, which brings together different fields of art and aims to promote Georgian culture and art both within Georgia and internationally.
